What Not To Pack For That Family Vacation

When you go on family vacation, there are some things that you should leave behind. Bringing the wrong things on vacation is almost as bad as forgetting something that you should have brought. Vacations are meant to be relaxing, and fun. As such, here is a list of things that you should leave behind when you travel and why they are better off at home:

vacation

1. Never ever bring large amounts of cash on vacation. While this seems like common sense, every vacation season someone ignores this sage advice and ends up losing it, or having it stolen. Nothing can kill a family vacation quicker than a money crisis. Take travelers checks or plastic and not cash.

2. Leave Fido with a trusted friend, family member, or kennel. Bringing the pet on family vacation seems like a good idea, until they eat the hotel room, or damage something. Also, dragging the pet everywhere and having to constantly take them out for business is not exactly relaxing, now is it?

3. Leave behind heavy type materials such as denim when you are packing that suitcase. You are going to have to lug that thing around. Pack lighter weight warm clothes such as wool, cotton, or other materials that are not as heavy.

4. Business cell phones, laptops, and other electronics are a big no no on family vacation. If you are taking a family vacation, that does not extend to your boss at work, or Aunt Sally in Rhode Island. Leave outside communications at home and only answer emergency calls.

5. Attitudes! Remember that family vacations are supposed to be fun. Do not have an attitude and do not allow kids with attitudes to follow you on vacation. Make the rules clear, and stick to them. Be happy on that family vacation.

6. Leave your stress at the door as well when you walk out for family vacation. Stress can kill a family vacation. If you are having money problems and can not really afford the vacation, put it off until you can. Going on a stressful vacation is worse than not going on vacation at all.

Family vacation is only as good as you make it, and you can start by leaving things behind that you do not need. If it is not directly related to your enjoyment of the vacation, then you should leave it at home. Family vacations are rare opportunities to enjoy each other, and you do not want to be distracted the entire time with unnecessary items.
