Australian beaches are among the most beautiful places to visit in the entire world. The white sanded beaches are crystal clear blue waters are inviting for anybody that sees them. Every year, tourists and travellers from all over the world come to bask in the beauty of these beaches. Many people that visit however, are not aware of the marine dangers that Australian beaches may have. This is something that all vacationers should be aware of when visiting these gorgeous beaches. Here are some of the marine dangers that one should be mindful of when visiting Australia:
1. Sharks - Sharks are very fond of Australian beaches much like any other beach. While the danger here is not much different from any other beach communities, the large number of swimmers, divers, snorkelers, and other marine activity in Australia puts more sharks in contact with more humans. As such, it would be smart to remember basic shark safety information. Do not swim with open cuts, and always swim in groups. Also, do not wear shiny jewelry or bright colored clothing.
2. Blue Ringed Octopus - This tiny little neon octopus is dangerous for a number of different reasons. Most of the time, when someone messes with this beautiful little octopus, it is a child. The child just sees a pretty little marine animal that is very small. The problem is that the blue ringed octopus is absolutely lethal. Any child or adult should be very aware of the blue ringed octopus and why they should avoid it at all costs.
3. Jellyfish - There are a number of species of jellyfish that are dangerous to humans including the absolutely deadly box jellyfish. A large number of jellyfish are kept out of the normal swim areas by nets, but the danger still exists. Not all jellyfish are stopped and some species are small enough to pass through the nets anyway. Generally, jellyfish are out in deeper waters, but one should still be aware of the danger that could lurk there. Wearing wet suits can help to ensure safety as well, though they are far from being one hundred percent effective.
4. Sharp Coral and Reefs - Though it is quite beautiful the coral and reef that sits in the Australian waters can be deadly as well. You have to be very careful about where you are stepping, swimming and snorkeling around these beautiful beaches.
5. Salt Water Crocodiles - Though the salties are not usually found in the surf of beaches, it does occasionally happen. They are very commonly found, however, in the areas where the rivers head into the seas. Also, the sounds and other bodies of water can house salt water crocodiles. Any time you enter a body of water in Australia, you must consider the risk of the salt water crocodile. Given that they are among the most deadly predators on Earth, you need to be mindful of the signs and information that is provided to you in Australia.
