What is it that you want in a beach to make it the ‘best’ beach? Is it the amazing wind for surfing? Or may be the romantic spot for a romantic date overlooking a romantic sunset? Is it the seclusion and quiet the beach gives you? How about the white sands and calm waters for the toddlers? Whatever may be your preferences and tastes for the best beach, we have it as I present some of our recommendations for the best beaches in Europe.
If surfing is your thing and it is what gets you to travel miles and miles to the nearest ocean, then you cannot go wrong in choosing the surfing capital of France in the French Riviera which is the Biarritz Beach. The Biarritz Beach is the place where the best surfers in the world congregate to try out the amazing waves of the French Riviera especially during the annual surfing festival in July. The Biarritz Beach is truly the most popular beach there is in France. Aside from the magnificent waves and miles and miles of golden sand, the Biarritz Beach is also the place where the French Emperor Napoleon III constructed a royal palace for the Empress Eugenia in the 19th Century. The said historical palace is now being used as a hotel called Hotel Du Palair.
If surfing is not for you, then may be a romantic island paradise is what you are looking for. Why not try the Utakleiv beach in Norway. It offers a 19th century style fisherman’s cottage that overlooks the breathtaking ocean and a magnificent sunset especially in June and July. The Utakleiv beach is in the Lofoten Islands in Vestvagoy. Walking hand in hand while the waves splash at your feet can also be a daytime activity in the Haukland Sands that have numeroulsy been given the award of Norway’s best beach.
If you are looking for some peace and quiet and sightseeing for a culture of long ago, then why not go into the Patara Beach in Turkey, which offers 12 miles of virtually untouched coastline lined with baths and basilicas and even a 2,000 year old ruin. The Patara Beach is near the Lycian harbour town that is rumored to be the place of birth of the Greek god Apollo. Because of its historic significance, developers are prohibited from touching this beautiful spot making it easy for any visitor to get lost in the gaze of the beautiful Aegean Sea.
If you are looking for some clear, clean white sand and a gentle breeze near comfortable taverns that have swings, turkeys, donkeys and puppies as well as its own supply of ice cream and inflatable then the Gerakas beach in Greece is what you are looking for. Located in Zakynthos at the tip of the Vassilikos peninsula in Gerakas, this beach getaway is perfect for the kids and their endless artistic design for sand buildings and castles. Fishes also congregate near the shallow waters therefore giving an added attraction for your kids.

That’s some natural beauty I have to say.
