When going on that family vacation in the car, the kids can become a bit bored if you do not prepare something for them to do. This common family vacation problem can be easily solved by playing some great car games. These are games that can be played with no problems right in the car. These games often become family traditions if you play them while the children are young, and they are certainly life savers to pass the time of a long drive. Here are five of the best car games for your next family vacation:

1. License Plate Bingo - This one is among the more popular car games and has been around in various forms for years. The key here is to find every letter of the alphabet using only license plates. The first one to do so wins. If the trip is a particularly long one, then you might make the game harder by limiting the plates to first letters used only. This will extend the game and the time that it passes.
2. Who Am I? This is one of the funnest car games for people who enjoy mystery type games or charades type games. One person thinks of a famous person and then gives clues as to their identity. The first person to guess the person is the next one to think up a famous person.
3. Storybook Time - If you have young children, this game is of particular interest. You basically start with a sentence of a made up story and then each person adds a sentence. You keep going until the story has been told, or it can go no more. The toddler aged children really enjoy this game and it helps with their creativity skills as well.
4. Sign Bingo - Like license plate bingo, this game is centered around the alphabet. You have to find a word that starts with each letter of the alphabet on road signs. These include traffic signs, and billboards. You can not move on to the next letter until you find the current letter you are on. This game is a bit more challenging than the license plate game.
5. Are We There Yet? - This takes the annoying expression and makes it a heck of a good time. Before leaving on your trip, pick out several points along the way of note. As you travel along, have each rider guess what time they will arrive at these checkpoints. This will keep the answer to are we there yet rather obvious for even the youngest kids.
Car games are a fun and often educational way to pass the time on those long car trips for family vacation. If you find yourself with long periods of silence, or worse yet, long periods of screaming bored kids, then try some of these car games for yourself.
