Egypt is a mystical place that had successfully integrated its ancient roots with modern technology. Cairo, which is Egypt’s capital, is one of the best places to soak up on ancient history in this country. Many historical structures that span over five millenniums of existence are also found in Cairo. These structures also vary in appearance and even history because of influences from its own rulers as well as colonial forces. This is because Egypt was occupied by rulers from different nationalities; among these are the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, the Turkish, the British, and the French. It is no wonder then that Egypt can adapt to different circumstances that spanned thousands of years.

Visiting Cairo would not be complete without stopping by Coptic Cairo. This is the oldest part of Cairo where the Romans build Babylon thousands of years ago. It is also the part of the city where the Christian community is concentrated so you will find a lot of churches here. This includes the Hanging Church which is the center of the Coptic Christian faith in Cairo. The Ben Ezra synagogue is also found in this part of the city. This synagogue is the oldest found in Egypt which is saying a lot considering how old the civilization of Egypt is. In addition, the use of cobbled street provides sense connectivity with the past for Cairo’s visitors. The Islamic center is found in another part of Cairo, this is otherwise known as Medieval Cairo. Many mosques can be found here. Worth visiting are the Mosque of Muhammad Ali and Ibn Tulun. These are the major mosques in the area. Many bazaars and shopping areas can also be found in Medieval Cairo.
