Guide To Traveling With Your Pet

Every experience will not be complete if there’s no one to share it with. It becomes extra special and even more memorable when a loved one is present to witness it with you. Traveling, for instance, makes for good memories to last you a lifetime. However, what happens if you want to take your pets with you on your travels? After all, you consider them a part of your family and naturally would not want them to be left behind. What do you need to prepare so you can take your furbabies and other pets with you on your trip?

The first thing to check is whether your destination is friendly to the type of animal that you’re bringing. Brush up on the local pet laws of the area that you’re visiting. Check with the hotel or lodging that you’ll be staying in if they’re willing to take in your pets. There may even be additional restrictions depending on the rules of the management. You wouldn’t want to end up having to look for a replacement hotel because your original choice does not allow pets to be brought in with you.

Usually, you need to update your pets’ vaccinations and have a record of these with you at all times. If there are additional vaccinations required, make sure to comply with them prior to your departure. In general, you need a health certificate from a licensed and accredited veterinarian as proof. You need to prepare all other medications that your pet will need because they may not be readily available during your trip.

Once you’ve ascertained that your pet will be welcome in your destination and you have further complied with their requirements, you need to collate all your pets’ identification records complete with photographs, license numbers, distinguishing marks and contact information. These will all come in handy when your pet becomes lost accidentally and you have to report his loss to the local authorities.

Also, prior to your departure, you need to search for and communicate with the nearest veterinary clinic in the area where you’re staying. It will help if they already expect your arrival and that your pets’ records will be forwarded to them. This will ultimately save time in the event that your pet will get sick.

Now, you need to prepare for the comfort of your pet. This includes a kennel or a carrier or a cage (depending on your pet), comfortable bedding, grooming tools (if needed), food and water containers, plastic bags (for cleaning up after them), collars and leashes (in case the one you’re bringing breaks), a first aid kit and some cleaning supplies in case of messes and spills.

It seems that you have already thought of everything. However, before you forget, not only should you check the regulations for bringing your pet out of the country and into another but also to prepare for any requirements for bringing your pet back into yours. It would be troublesome if you get detained at the airport of your home country simply because you didn’t prepare for your trip back.

All of these preparations seem too tiring to accomplish but think about the joy you’ll feel having your beloved pet with you in your travels.
