PacMan Jones is back on the Dallas Cowboys radar, though owner Jerry Jones is not owning up to it. Jones claims that the controversial PacMan will not be resigned by the Dallas Cowboys, but that really means absolutely nothing coming from him. The Dallas Cowboys owner is known for going back and forth on things like this, and if he is considering Jones again he would not say so.
PacMan Jones has been the perfect example of the spoiled athlete that can not keep his nose clean. This guy is making millions in the NFL, and had his entire life in front of him. In spite of this, PacMan Jones has managed to get arrested repeatedly regardless of the fact that the NFL has threatened to suspend him forever. In spite of the problems, owners like Jerry Jones just keep on giving him chances.
PacMan Jones was a thug before he was ever drafted by the Tennessee Titans. He had already been sentenced to a year in prison, and then had it reduced to two years of probation because he played football. Then he came to the NFL and had money. From then on, it was a blue light special for PacMan Jones. It seemed that every other week he was in trouble for something.
On the heels of this, and a suspension from the NFL, what does Dallas owner Jerry Jones do? He goes out and trades for PacMan. PacMan then burns Jones, and gets into trouble. How can Jones possibly be surprised. Jerry Jones then lets PacMan go. Now, rumors are swirling that Jerry Jones is considering bringing him back.
Jones has a history of bringing low character guys onto the Dallas Cowboys football team. The Cowboys just rid themselves of malcontent Terrell Owens, so why would they then want to bring back someone like PacMan? Only Jerry Jones seems to know the answers to that question. Nobody else does for sure.
One could surmise that it is because the Cowboys are thin in the secondary. Though Jones could not seem to stay on the field, when he did play he was effective. He was far from being a standout, but PacMan is a talented corner when he is on the field. That is the frustration with guys like PacMan. They have all the talent in the world, but they can not seem to keep their noses clean.
After a terrible year in 08, Jones has to be feeling the pressure from the Dallas fans and sponsors. America’s Team has not been very good the last couple of years, and particularly when it comes to crunch time. Romo still has to prove he can win the big game, and now he does not have that weapon in Owens to throw to.
PacMan Jones needs to be forced to live clean for a couple of years before anybody even thinks of signing him. That would be the minimum I would expect, and the truth is he should have been banned for life three arrests ago. No player is bigger than the NFL, and the saga of PacMan is threatening that notion in Dallas.
