The NFL football season is a very long process. The playing field during week six is rarely the same when the end of the season comes along. Teams will rise and fall like the stock market. Still, there are a handful of teams that are virtual locks to be in the playoffs at the end of the season and a couple that seem to be standing head and shoulders above the rest. Through six weeks of NFL football action, who is the looking like the most likely bet for the Super Bowl?

Here are the top five options so far this season:

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are simply looking unbeatable so far this year. Drew Brees is as good as anyone in the NFL, and they are healthy pretty much across the board. Of all the undefeated NFL football teams, the Saints seem to be the most explosive. The only real question mark for this team is whether they can keep the running game healthy. All of their running backs seem to get hurt every other week.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are really quite amazing. Ever since Peyton Manning took over the Colts, they have been a model of consistency, and 2009 is no exception. This version of the Colts is as good as most any. Manning lost longtime partner in crime Marvin Harrison this year, and he just kept on going. Reggie Wayne and a whole slew of young talent is keeping the Colts among the league’s best.

Minnesota Vikings

Say what you will, but the legendary Favre has the Vikings at 6-0. Not only has he not been beaten, but he has had several magical moments already as well. For years the Vikings have claimed that they are only a quarterback away from hitting the big time. They certainly appear to be right as the Vikings are solid as a rock. If Favre can keep up his current stats, he will have the best overall season of his long career. That is something else at 40 something.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are the Rodney Dangerfields of this group. They get no respect. Still, they are in a position that any club would trade for. They are unbeaten and have faced some pretty decent teams as well. The Broncos are a team that is the definition of teamwork. They get it done with very few superstars and a whole lot of heart. They are surely the sentimental favorites among the NFL sleepers.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are one of the better young teams in the NFL. Young Matt Ryan is a superstar in the making, and the Falcons are playing like gang busters this season. The thing that gets me about Atlanta is that they seem completely cool under pressure. You will not see the Falcons panic at any point in a football game. If they can secure a playoff spot that could make them very dangerous.
