In the world of the WWE, the tag team has become a bit of a sideshow rather than an actual division. Ironically, the WWE was built in it’s modern form in part by powerful and exciting tag team wrestling. What has brought on this abandonment of the tag team division is very puzzling indeed. Still, the WWE could fix the problem very quickly if they would simply put some together and let them grow into the roles. Here are five fantasy WWE tag teams that I think would go over in a big way with fans:
Shelton Benjamin and The Brian Kendrick - While Kendrick is a bit annoying, he is still a potentially perfect tag team partner for Benjamin. The two would play quite well off each other and they both have impressive high flying skills. They could really make an outstanding heel team for the WWE.
Matt Hardy and Festus - This is seemingly a joke, but the truth is I think it could be wildly entertaining. Though a bit of a sideshow, Festus is a powerhouse that could be “trained” in the art of tag team wrestling by the old pro Matt. With the current track that Matt is on, being forced into a Festus tag team could make for some very funny moments.
Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio - These two high flyers would be the perfect face tag team to battle the heels of the WWE. Though Mysterio is currently on the Smackdown roster, the WWE could find a way to make it happen. The two are a perfect complement to each other, and could be an exciting tag team for years to come.
CM Punk and Mr. Kennedy - Kennedy is due back soon and I think he could benefit from a little tag team run before heading up to the main event scene. He has been out of action for some time, and Punk would be an excellent match as a partner. The two would be one of the top face tag teams of the WWE.
Edge and Christian - A reuniting of the best tag team in WWE history would go a long ways towards solidifying the division. Edge and Christian are certainly capable of elevating some face tag teams to huge popularity and if they were brought in as faces, that would be even better. Though both are currently world champions, I feel they could better serve the WWE by saving the very thing that made them famous in the first place….tag team wrestling.
The tag teams in the WWE currently are growing very stale because there are no real teams to compete with. That is the primary issue right now. Rhodes and DiBiase and Carlitto and Primo are the two best teams at the moment, and Chryme Time could be if they ever actually got to wrestle. The WWE must move soon if they hope to save what was once one of their crown jewels…the WWE tag team division.
