One had to expect that the signing of Brett Favre by the NFL Minnesota Vikings would be a bit of a circus. Just looking at Favre’s constant retirement/un-retirement sagas of the last few years would have told us that. Now it seems that the Vikings locker room is at best divided, and at worst close to mutiny as to which quarterback should pilot the ship. I have news for the Vikings players - They are wasting their breath. Brett Favre, for better or worse, will start and run the Viking ship this season barring injury.

The problem appears to be that many in the the Vikings locker room want Tavaris Jackson, and some even want Sage Rosenfels. According to ESPN sources, hardly anyone wants Brett Favre among the players. Can you really blame them?

For those that have never had the pleasure of being a part of a football team, loyalty is paramount to most everything. Tavaris Jackson has handled the biggest part of this whole scenario with class. Add to this that the guy has played lights out so far in camp and preseason and it becomes obvious that people would lobby for him. What they are not considering is the fact that the Vikings are a better team with Favre under center. Playing well in the preseason does not magically fix all the problems that Jackson has in the regular season.

Favre is going to give the Vikings one thing they have not had in recent years. Favre is going to give them experience under center and a winning attitude. I am not the biggest Favre fan in general, but I do respect the guy’s moxie. He is willing to put himself out there and give 100 percent every single play. He will make some spectacular plays, and some bone headed plays as well. That is the difference. When Jackson would make a mistake, he would then lose his confidence for the rest of the game. In some situations, he would lose it for weeks at a time. With Favre, he might throw an interception two series in a row, but then have the ability to turn around and win the game in the last quarter.

Nobody will contest the fact that having Favre under center is a roller coaster ride, especially now that he is older. Still, he will flat out win games with the cast around him. The locker room can be loyal to Jackson all they want. Favre will just win.

Another thing that the Vikings considered when they signed Favre was the ability to rub off on other quarterbacks. Say what you will about the success Rogers is having in Green Bay, but do not say that he would be that good without Favre. Favre will help Jackson and Rosenfels develop, and they will be better for the experience in the long run.

The Vikings are going to be fine. All they need is a sniff of success from Favre. If he struggles, then it might be the worst year ever for Viking fans. We will just have to wait and see.
