The Dallas Cowboys are now in a position to prove themselves yet again. In an off season where the Cowboys made most headlines due to subtraction, the Cowboys may just have shaken off that curse that has kept them out of playoff success for so long. The Cowboys parted ways with many football players that we are used to seeing in blue and silver, most notably the distraction that is Terrell Owens. The Cowboys also no longer have SS Roy Williams, LB Zack Thomas, and old man quarterback Brad Johnson on the team. These subtractions are not necessarily a bad thing for the Cowboys.

In place of Terrell, you have Roy Williams. Now Owens was an incredible talent, make no mistake about that. However, his off the field distractions and mouth were a detriment to the Cowboys. As for Roy Williams taking over the number one wide out slot, in my mind I see no big dropoff. I think that Williams will fill out nicely. The only issue I see here is depth, and that could be off set by Miles Austin stepping up. Many feel he will do just that.

The loss of the other Roy Williams at safety is really overdue for many Cowboy fans. While he is a hard hitter at the position, he had many problems in coverage that were well documented. The Cowboys should be in fine shape there in the long run.

The other two losses for the Cowboys, Zack Thomas and Brad Johnson were replaced and upgraded. While Zack is as tough as they come and a class act, newcomer Keith Brooking will be an upgrade to the linebacker corps. Brad Johnson will be replaced by long time starter Jon Kitna. Kitna can still play, and particularly with all the weapons the Cowboy offense has.

The biggest reason for renewed optimism in Dallas is the running back position. The Cowboys have no less than three runners that would start for most teams. Marion Barber is still the incumbent starter for now, but he is likely to be pushed by the pair of draft picks from last season. Tashard Choice and Felix Jones are absolute stars in the making. The Cowboys may never have seen such depth at running back before. Last year, the Cowboys did not get the benefit of the depth due to the injuries to Jones and Barber. The opposition will not want to face this three headed monster in 09.

Tony Romo is still the wild card. The popular quarterback is the best in the league in games where it does not seem to matter as much, but he has not shown an ability to win when it matters most. Late season collapses have tarnished his image, though to be truthful these collapses were on the team. Romo can only do so much, but his leadership is key to the Cowboys winning in the playoffs. Now that Terrell is in Buffalo, Romo will be able to take that position in the locker room.

The Dallas Cowboys are a team of extreme talent. If some of these things come together in Big D, you just might see a Super Bowl in the near future.
