Zhu Zhu pets mania has hit the 2009 Christmas shopping season like a hurricane out of control. These furry little robotic hamsters are this season’s Christmas toy fad, and they show no signs of slowing down as Christmas approaches fast. Virtually every parent of a toddler has felt the push of Zhu Zhu pets mania, and it is not likely to subside any time until after the Christmas season. Stores are out of stock already, and the Zhu Zhu pets are selling for up to ten times the retail price on the secondary markets such as Ebay and other online venues.

This Zhu Zhu pets insanity is not without precedent. In years past, we have seen Tickle Me Elmo, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Pet Rocks and even various video games systems explode on the Christmas season and leave millions of battered shoppers in their wake. The odd thing about it is that this Christmas shopping fad, like all the others before them, will likely fall flat after the Holiday season has passed us by. Few products keep the Christmas gift momentum much past New Years if at all.
Zhu Zhu pets have some things working for them as far as longevity goes, however. They are fairly inexpensive when bought off the shelves, and they are pretty darn interactive if you like that sort of thing. They are pretty much like a real hamster except for that whole living and dying thing, and they are incredibly cute and adorable. Another fad from year’s past has made itself something closer to a trend - Beanie Babies comes to mind. Beanie Babies were very popular back in the day and they are still being bought and sold a decade later. The reason? Everybody loves cute little animals. Zhu Zhu pets has that same thing going for it.
Zhu Zhu pets retail for around $10.00 if you are lucky enough to find them from a retail store or online source that gets them direct. Amazon is another excellent way to get Zhu Zhu pets, but they are littered with people offering them at many times the retail value. You have to be careful to get the Zhu Zhu pets for a fair price, or else you will likely feel had soon after Christmas. Some parents are willing to pay the inflated prices, but with the economy in horrible shape, the price gouging will likely make many people miss out.
Zhu Zhu pets are the hot thing to be sure for 2009, and some people are willing to do whatever it takes to get them. While certainly they are entitled to use whatever means necessary to get the furry little critters, others are left to try to catch them in stock somewhere. The easiest and best chance that you have if you must have them at a fair price is to watch Amazon. They do get them direct on occasion and if you are persistent, you can catch one on there. Short of that, there are likely to be many disappointed Zhu Zhu pets fans on Christmas morning. No need to worry though…they will be available the day after Christmas for .99 cents in the clearance bin.
