The 100 Best Products of 2007

On Monday, May 21, PCWorld.com released an article ranking the best PC’s, HDTV’s, components, sites and services of 2007. There are many interesting and exciting products featured on the list. Here are a few highlights from the Top 100.

1. Google Apps Premier Edition – Watch out Microsoft Office. Google has released an office suite that includes Gmail, Google Docs and Spreadsheets, Google Calendar, Google Talk and other business related programs. The basic suite is offered for free to anyone but there is also the Premier Edition available for $50 which gives you some more features and preferences to customize it towards your business. Google Apps still aren’t up to par with Microsoft Office but given some more time, it may be a serious contender.

3. Nintendo Wii - There was an extreme amount of hype over the last year about video game systems. Sony was releasing the long awaited PlayStation 3, XBOX was the first to release theirs with the XBOX 360 and nobody expected much out of the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has proven to be the hottest gaming system around and you are lucky if you can find one in a store. The Wii has an innovative motion sensored control that gets gamers up off the couch and moving around. With exciting new games, the Nintendo Wii is a great gaming system for the whole family; a feature that isn’t so common in the Sony PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360.

16. Canonical Ubuntu – The latest Linux release from Canonical is going to be featured as an operating system from Dell. The latest Ubuntu features very impressive security fixes and an interface that welcomes new Linux user. Ubuntu is the strongest Linux operating system out there currently and may change people’s mind about trying a new operating system.

35. Mozilla Firefox 2 – Firefox entered the scene in previous years with an exciting new browser that rivals the standard Internet Explorer browser. Many have tried to create a more functional browser but few have succeeded. Mozilla Firefox must have been a threat to Microsoft because in the first updated Internet Explorer browser in years, Internet Explorer copied many of the innovative features offered in Firefox. Mozilla’s Firefox has a strong following from the open source crowd. It’s another awesome new product that Microsoft is going to have to keep its eyes on in the future.

58. Digg.com – More and more Internet users are jumping on the Web 2.0 bandwagon and getting involved in the content that makes up the web. Digg.com is one of the most popular social bookmarking sites that allows you to “digg” articles that are submitted by other users. The voting concept puts articles on the front page that are truly interesting to many people. If you don’t like the article, you can also bury it and vote it down from the front page.

74. Meebo – This free web based instant message service is the perfect match for any multi-messenger users. At meebo.com, you can log in to all of your instant messenger services with just one simple log in and all of your buddy lists are combined into one. It makes using multiple messengers very simple. No annoying software updates to worry about. Meebo is growing worldwide and is becoming more and more popular every day.

79. TiVo Series3 – Anyone who has ever owned a TiVo or DVR knows that they cannot live without it. With the new TiVo Series3, you can finally record cable HD to your TiVo for playback. It is a little bit expensive but if you’re paying the big bucks for HD, you need a method to record it.
