Sony Ericsson Walkman W810i

Any communications gadget that offers multiple, user-friendly functions, affordability and portability has become a must even for those with some difficulty understanding the technology that goes with it. This fascination for modern telecommunications technology is now mainly dictated by the needs of the modern and busy lifestyle.

Can you imagine going about your present activities without a cell phone? Most probably with great difficulty, because cell phones, like the Sony Ericsson Walkman W810i, are not just for making calls or sending text messages. The Walkman label is prominently displayed to emphasize its high quality music playing feature.

Sony Ericsson Walkman W810i has a long official list of features that retain the good old ones of the existing phones and of course, the outstanding ones that make this model one of the most sought after. Among them are:

  • A 2-pixel digital camera, with zoom, auto focus, and built-in flash.
  • MP3, with better sound quality.
  • Voice-activated dialing of up to 30 numbers.
  • PC Synchronization.
  • Quadband GSM Technology.
  • Bluetooth Technology, v2.0.
  • FM Radio with 8 pre set stations.
  • Phone book capacity up to 1000 entries.
  • Elegant black or silver look.
  • Modem function using EDGE, 2,75G software for higher download, internet speed.
  • 20MB built in memory, expandable with 128 MB card, Memory Stick Duo compatible.

After almost a year after its release, research among acquaintances, discussion boards, message boards and different forums, shows different levels of difficulties in using the phone, On the average, it is rated 7 out 10 in the different rating sites. Those gifted with technology savvy are able to use the full functions and just post suggestions, but there are others for whom the unit is not immediately ready to be used fully as they encountered various problems like some listed below.

  • Annoying light flash in using the camera
  • Complaints that there is no lens cover. Although the specifications state that there is a protective plastic cover for the lens, it seems some user don’t think it’s adequate.
  • User can not turn music from the MP3 into ring tones. Eventually, they learn what software to use, but shouldn’t it be easy to determine?
  • Photos, although of good quality, are just of the same as those taken with older models, like the W800 or K750. The issue is that there was no improvement in the camera.
  • On standby mode, the display is just black. A continuous clock display would have been useful.
  • Low MP3 volume compared with other models.
  • Phone accessories are specific for Sony Erickson only.
  • Shorter than expected battery life.

Instructions to address the above and other users’ concerns are long and are best searched in the different sites where cell phone users communicate with each other.

Overall, the Sony Erickson Walkman W810i is a good, multi-function cellphone and an outstanding music player. Its Walkman technology is its advantage over other models in its class.

I have a problem with my Walkman 801. I can not hear the phone ring when its on my belt. I can not even hear people on my speaker. The sales man say it alright. I;m not deaf but I still can not hear the phone. I want to send it back to Sony for adjustment or repairs. The phone does me no good when I can not hear the other people.
