Shopping For Spring 2009 Makeup

Sometimes shopping for seasonal trends can be boring because it’s the same thing year after year. For example, take spring makeup. Every year the heavy eyeliner and dark lipsticks get put away, and pinks and corals take their place in your makeup bag. This makes things easy if you want to look timely—honestly, most women could probably get away with wearing last year’s beauty products and no one would know the difference, as long as it’s not a product like mascara where potential contamination makes the shelf life short.

However, there are some unique trends in Spring 2009 makeup that will make shopping for the look slightly more interesting for this go-round. For one thing, purple is the big color, which is unusual because pink is usually in the spotlight this time of year. Purple may sound intimidating but the truth is that it comes in an almost endless variety of shades to suit any skin tone, so anyone can find purple eye makeup that looks good on them. If you’re fair, use a more pastel version, while the darker your skin gets, the closer you can move towards a true purple. The smoky eye, which is usually a makeup look featured in fall or winter, was very popular at Spring 2009 runway shows, but it was given a fresh look by using purple eyeliner rather than black or brown and blending it very carefully.

For the face, the look for Spring 2009 is clean, perfect dewy skin, which means you want to purchase a foundation that has at least medium coverage to hide any flaws or unevenness. Don’t apply it with a heavy hand, though. Put it on the center of your face (brow, nose and chin) first, and then blend outward. Pick a foundation with a texture that gives you a glow rather than a totally matte foundation. In other words, put your mineral powder foundation away until summer time!

For lips, matte nudes and roses are in. This can be a hard look to wear for many women, but remember, nude doesn’t have to mean the color of your concealer. Basically it means to pick a lip color as close as possible to your natural lip color. There are very few women out there who have naturally beige lips! Pick a rose color if your lips are light, a color with more brown if they’re dark, and try several shades on until you find the one that makes your face glow rather than washing you out.

Finally, for blush, rosy but natural cheeks were very in on the Spring 2009 fashion runway. This means a pink that goes with your skin tone and application that makes it look like you’re flushing from exercise. The best way to get this look is with a gel blush. You can apply a little at first and add more if you need more color. It builds up in layers so mistakes aren’t a big deal.
