Knowing The Difference Between Plasma and LCD Televisions

Plasma or LCD? This is one of the most common questions when someone goes to purchase a new televsion these days. Both of these types of televisions have thin profiles, and offer most options that are available for television. That said, how do you decide between the two and why? Here are some tips to consider when deciding between the two:

plasma

1. Both plasma and LCD (liquid crystal display) televisions are considered to be works in progress. They have come a long ways as far as picture quality and durability, but they are constantly getting better and better. They are far from being a finished product.

2. Plasma televisions are usually considered a bit better for general home theater type use, primarily because they show blacks better than LCD televisions. This allows for better contrast. That gap is quickly closing, however.

3. Another common complaint about LCD televisions is that the picture quality can be affected depending on where you sit and view it. Those sitting off to the side of an LCD can sometimes get a bad picture. This is constantly getting better, however, and recent LCD models are quickly overcoming this problem.

4. At one time, plasma televisions were priced better than LCDs for what you got. Now, with the current competition driving the market, they are largely similar for similar types of features. LCD televisions are still very high, however, in the super sized entertainment versions.

5. Though LCD screens have a lower brightness level, they also consume about half the power of plasma televisions. If you consider eco friendly to be important, then LCD is your choice to be sure.

6. LCD televisions are much lighter than the plasma televisions of similar size. This is very convenient due to the desire of most to mount them on the wall.

7. Though LCD televisions may have once lasted longer, the current models are very similar in this area today.

8. Bigger televisions tend to be better with Plasma, while smaller screens favor LCD. This is true as we speak, but it is changing all the time.

9. Both models offer HD in varying degrees of quality, but on the whole, LCD technology allows for superior HD services.

Though both television types are very nice, and offer different levels of superior performance, the biggest factor is what you like in a television. Go into your local dealer, and take a look at all the models in action. Whichever television you like the best should be the one that you go with. Plasma or LCD will provide you with hours of great television and movies.
