Okay, so maybe you have a phone that works well enough for you to make a few calls, and maybe go online once in a while. Maybe that video editing tool is also cool but since you can edit more efficiently over the computer anyway, this feature is posing to be more of a memory-filler than anything else. To many music freaks out there, a phone with the most bombastic array of music related features is the best way to go, and all other add-ons can just take a leaping break. If that is how you think phones should be, then the Sony Ericsson W580i will not disappoint you the least. It certainly works well enough for us.
First of all, the Sony Ericsson W580i is way wickedly small; small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and thin enough to fit into any breast pocket. Sure, larger phones are still popular, but some of them can be outright bulky and very difficult for one hand manipulations. We prefer one-handedness, thank you very much and if any phone comes without a stylistic pen; then we are more than happy to slip it in your pockets.
Colors are great too, especially if you feel that need to display your goodies – your cell phone goodies, that is. You can immediately tell if the phone is especially geared to a younger, hip crowd by simply looking at the available colors. There is the Boulevard Black, Jungle Green, Metro Pink, Style White, and the Urban Grey.
Released last August 2007, this smartphone is part of the Walkman series and is specially engineered to play, play, and play music. Crystal clear recordings and immediate audio playback are two of the features that this phone has over all the others. So if you want a brief clip of that live performance you are hearing right now, the Sony Ericsson W580i can store it for you and play it back in due course. However, nothing beats the ringing sharpness of downloaded music, and the phone unit can match any i-Pod device any day. The unit also has an FM radio searcher, and you can record any song clip as it plays.
As for videos, there is very little originality in regards to the video editing option, but we really do not care. The real time video streaming works well enough for us and the video viewing options include: Bluetooth stereo, Mega Bass, Shake Control and can play MP3s and AACs. Okay, we must admit, although the camera is already 2.0 mega pixels, there are still some phones with better video recording devices. Some phones of the Sony Ericsson W580i do not even have a 4x digital zooming. But in any case, the phone can still be used for picture blogging, if nothing else.
If you have ADD like us, you might enjoy the installed (and downloadable) 3D and Java games) while listening to music. Connectivity is also no problem, since you can basically hook the Sony Ericsson W580i to almost anything: from modems, to Bluetooth (with 2.0 support), to PictBridge, and finally to USB mass storage.
