The GPSMAP 76CSx Hand-held model is very popular in marine and outdoor usage because of the rugged and waterproof design along with the removable 128MB microSD (San Disc) card that contains detailed memory mapping. The micro SD card slot is also located within the protective battery container to provide for total and absolute waterproofing when on the waters. This model is equipped with a highly sensitive WAAS- capable GPS receiver, with a built-in quad-helix receiving antenna with remote antenna capability that can acquire satellites much faster, and also allow users to locate themselves accurately even in difficult conditions. The GPSMAP 76CSx also contains an electronic digital compass with high accuracy and a barometric altimeter with automatic pressure trend recording.

The GPSMAP 76CSx is fitted with a large, stylish 256 color, transflective TFT (160 x 240 pixel) display screen. The display and keyboard are LED backlit for ease of use in the dark. This model comes equipped with a 10,000-point automatic track log; 20 saved tracks (500 points each) which let you construct your path in both directions. The trip computer provides for odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, and maximum speed data among others. There is an optional feature of purchasing the microSD cards that are pre-loaded with inland lake maps, marine cartography, and street maps. It also includes a built-in Americas autoroute basemap with automatic routing capabilities, including highways and tide data (USA only). Its two alkaline AA batteries provide an 18 hour usage time under typical use conditions. If dropped in the water, the unit floats due to its unique designing.
