Shutterbugs all over the world are wondering whether Canon’s newest offering is really worth the increased price; or are they really better off with its predecessor: the Canon EOS 30D? Well, after several films, a couple of hours clicking away and finally printing the images we captured, we finally decided that the Canon EOS 40D is indeed worth its $1,250 - $1,500 price tag. And yeah, it is superior in performance as compared to the 30D.
However, it should be noted that there are other cameras in the market with almost the same specifications but can afford consumers more, like the Samsung NV11 10.1 Megapixel Digital Camera. This Samsung model has the same specifications and more features but the price can kill off your budget at a price range that goes from $1,900.00 to $2,500. So, if you are in a pinch, you can be assured that the Canon EOS 40D model can serve you well.
So What Does The Canon EOS 40D Offer?
The Canon Electro-Optical System 40D, which was released last August 2007, is a 10.1 mega-pixel semi-professional camera with a digital single lens reflex or dSLR ocular piece. It uses an APS-C (Advanced Photo System Type C) sized image sensor that allows for a 1.6x field of view crop factor. It also uses the standard Canon autofocus technology with a 35 mm film.
What Differentiates The Canon EOS 40D From Its Predecessor?
Well, first of all there is a higher 14 bit color resolution sensor in this new model; whereas the previous ones only had 12-bit color gauge. The Canon EOS 40D retains the same crop factor dimension, but with improved micro-lenses that help to keep the noise level down. If you are particularly keen on finding a relatively quiet machine, this new model is by far one of the best offerings from Canon.
Also, the rear screen size of this new model is increased by 0.5 inches measuring the LCD at 3.0 inches. There is a large 17 raw image frame and a 75 jpeg buffer. The shutter speed is also increased to 59 ms which can handle a maximum 6.5 frames per second. That’s basically, 5 shots per second. The Canon EOS 40D also has an AF sensor that uses the same diamond layout technology as its predecessors.
Shutterbugs will also be pleased to know that the view finder magnification for this model has been increased and modified so that it gives off an alert whenever you shoot in grayscale. You can turn this feature off, if indeed you plan your shoot in black and white. However, this feature is really handy especially for non-professional lens men and women. How often have we fiddled with a few buttons in an aim for a really close shot, only to find out that we kissed off the color through grayscale shooting?
As with its predecessors, the Canon EOS 40D can record in sRAW, RAW and JPEG formats, but with the higher color resolution in this one, digital printing is improved quite dramatically.
