By doing this, not only will you be more knowledgeable about antiques, but you will become a smarter shopper as well.

4. Prepare yourself for shopping

First of all, wear comfortable shoes. If you will be hunting for antiques the whole day, best to keep your feet comfortable. Aside from money and credit cards of course, bring a pocket calculator with you so you won’t have to do mental computations. Along with your list of collectible items and list of antique shops to visit, bring a reliable map for driving directions. Have the telephone number of the store you plan to visit that day with you so you can call anytime you get lost.

5. Locate the antique shop and browse the merchandise

Immediately inspect the items you are interested in. Is it in good condition? Ask the dealer where he gets his sources from. This could be another avenue for you to find your treasures. Next, determine what collectibles are most reasonably priced and will hold their investment value.

6. Try to visit garage sales and flea markets

Sometimes you find treasures in unexpected places. Dig in garage sales and look for bargains. Ask the owner about the history behind the antiques they are disposing. You just might find the pieces you are looking for.

7. After visiting several antique shops, purchase from the ones that is value for your money

Get back to the stores which have items you really are interested in. Be courteous with the vendors and try asking for discounts. Offer a reasonable price that’s a win-win for both parties.
