Taipei is an incredibly interesting place. It has been the capital of the Chinese Republic for almost 70 years, and is a hustling and bustling type city. Taipei is in essence a large industrial area, where many of the textile and electronics factories are located. The city itself is on the island of Taiwan and is connected to the rest of the attractions by buses and railway lines. Taipei 101
If you have always wanted to see one of the seven new wonders of the world, you can do so with relative ease in Taipei. This humongous building contains one hundred and one floors above the ground, and five beneath it. The way it has been designed means that it can withstand hurricanes and earthquakes. There are indoor and outdoor observatories at the summit of this wonderful building which will afford you the luxury of a spectacular panoramic view over the whole city. Much like Times Square, fireworks are traditionally set off from the top of the tower for all to see, and Taipei 101 is often featured on television broadcasts as a symbol of the city, and of China itself. Taipei 101 attracts visitors and tourists from all over the globe, and is a phenomenal place to go and visit. Don’t forget to take your camcorder to capture the view!
National Palace Museum
This wonderful museum is home to some of the most sought after pieces of Chinese history on the planet. Whether you are interested in artwork or artifacts, the National Palace Museum will have something to take your fancy. Some of the property of the ancient Chinese Emperors can be seen on display here, as well as other fantastic exhibits. There will be nowhere else you can go in Taipei and learn as much about the Ancient Chinese and the Civil War which split the country in two. The galleries are expansive, so allocate a good amount of time to see the impressive exhibits. The museum is open daily for your convenience, and has facilities for children and people in wheelchairs.
National Theater and Concert Hall
Whether you fancy a night at the opera, or a viewing of a Shakespearean opera, this wonderful venue will have something to offer you. The theater itself is impressive in size and decoration, and is held in high-esteem by the people living in Taipei. Chinese theater tends to be extremely ornate and symbolic, and is something you must experience before heading home. Be sure to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
