Providence is the exciting capital city of Rhode Island. It is well populated, and has many activities to interest people of all ages. Providence was once notable for its silverware, but since the decline of the manufacturing industry, there has been much focus on higher learning and service industries. The poverty rate puts Providence on the list of the ten poorest cities, but don’t let this fool you. There are eight hospitals in Providence, and a wealth of history to entertain you for your whole visit.
Whether you already have your ticket to Providence in your hand, or you are considering a visit at some point in the near future, here are some of the top tourist attractions that the area has to offer.

Roger Williams National Memorial
This tiny park is one of the smallest in the nation. Roger Williams originally founded the settlement of Providence in the mid 1600’s. This wonderful little park is dedicated to his memory, and is well worth a look if you are in the area. Roger Williams believed in religious freedom, and when he was banished from Massachusetts, he founded this area for any person to come and worship as they saw fit. The park itself is a beautiful and scenic area, which is perfect for photograph taking, and witnessing a wonderful piece of Rhode Island history.
Rhode Island School of Design Museum
This museum is surprisingly the twentieth largest in the United States, and houses over 80,000 separate exhibits. The museum began around 1877 and quickly became famous for its world-class collections. The works of art, which are displayed in the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, come from all over the globe. If you are interested in ancient Greece or Rome, this is going to be where you see some of the finest artifacts left on the planet. That said, there is also a celebration of local artists contained within these walls. There are woodworks on display, and furniture which were crafted by a Rhode Island carpenter. Other collections include Monet, Picasso, and Andy Warhol. Overall, this museum offers a fantastic range of both art and amenities. There are eating facilities located within the museum, as well as adequate facilities for children and the wheelchair-bound. The museum is open on a daily basis all year round for your convenience.
First Baptist Church in America
You might not be aware of this, but Providence is the home of the First Baptist Church of America. The residents of Rhode Island are very proud of their little piece of history, and much has been done to make this a great place to visit. Again, this church was founded by Roger Williams, and was designated a historic landmark as recently as 1966. Brown’s Commencements are undertaken at this site as a matter of tradition, and the church is a joy to visit. There are many utilities located around the church, such as eateries, and the building itself is a great place for photograph opportunities, whether or not you are interested in the religious aspect.
