Visit Auckland: The Place with Dual Harbors

One of the things that make this hustling and bustling place unique is that it has harbors on two bodies of water. Auckland is the best populated area in the country of New Zealand, with more than one and a half million residents. This is a wonderfully cosmopolitan area, with a huge Polynesian contingent, and many immigrants from other countries choosing to live there. Surprisingly, there are many small mountainous areas surrounding Auckland, including the Hunua Range on the South-east side, and the Waitakere Range on the North-West side. There is a diverse range of activities and entertainment to be found in this friendly and popular conurbation.

Whether you have your bags packed and are ready to take flight, or you are just considering taking a vacation to Auckland some time in the not-too-distant future, here are some of the must-see tourist attractions in the conurbation itself, and the surrounding areas.

Auckland Harbor Bridge

This humongous bridge and symbol of Auckland is definitely a sight to behold. This eight-lane motorway bridge connects Saint Mary’s Bay in the city with North Shore City. It goes over the Waitemata Harbor, and is the longest road bridge that can be found in the North Island. It is impressive and definitely offers you a chance to take some spectacular photographs to show your friends and family when you get home.

Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World

This spectacular aquarium is a must-see tourist attraction when you visit Auckland. What makes it so interesting and unique, is that it is built in a former sewer system. There is an Antarctic Encounter in the aquarium which features various species of penguin, Stingray Bay, which affords you to see several different varieties of large stingray, Sea Creatures, which is full of a whole range of piranhas, moray eels, stonefish, and pufferfish, and an Interactive Room, which has been designed to educate people about the marine world in general. There are also sharks, and exhibits where you can touch the fish if you so desire. The aquarium has been well-designed to hold many people at one time. If you are thinking about visiting, you would be well-advised to make an early start in order to beat the onslaught of other tourists.

Sky Tower

If you are thinking of doing something really special, why not try having dinner in a revolving restaurant located over 320 meters in the air? This telecommunications tower is the tallest free-standing building in the southern hemisphere, and offers panoramic view of the whole city. There is an observation deck, and in fact, two different restaurants to choose from. The Sky Tower has become a trademark of Auckland, and is often used in advertisements for this exciting and entertaining location. The shape of the tower is somewhat unique in that it is free-standing, and has been built to withstand all the forces that Mother Nature has to offer. This is a must-see location, and the restaurants which revolve are exquisite for photograph taking and memories.
