Ultimate Vacation in Peru

Planning to take a great vacation? Why not consider visiting the beautiful country of Peru, a country located in the western part of South America. This country is well renowned for its many archaeological locations of its colonial past. Countries closest to Peru include Columbia, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. The Pacific Ocean is also bordering the country on the west direction.

To enter Peru you must first visit the nearest Peruvian embassy in your country. Depending on your country of origin, you may be required to acquire a visa at the local Peruvian embassy in your country or you may have the convenience of getting one at any of Peru’s entry point. A tourist visa is effective for a maximum of 183 days and cannot be extended.

Once our visa requirements are settled then it’s off to Peru. The main entry point into this country would be the city of Lima. You could make this place as your base in exploring the wonderful country and discover its grand history. Lima covers an area of around 800 square kilometers, making it a huge place to explore. There are a lot of museums here to visit, the most popular being Museo Rafael Larco Herrera. This museum was constructed during the 18th century and has the distinction of having the largest ceramics collection in the world. Aside from museums there are also a lot of exquisite colonial constructions which have been declared a Cultural world Heritage Site by UNESCO.

After exploring Lima you could head out to Cuzco. This city has the distinction of being the archaeological capital of South America as well as being the oldest city in Peru. There are lots of attractions in this city from museums to galleries. Being the capital of the Incan Empire, there are lots of historical places in here to visit.

Located just below the Peruvian Altiplano is the city of Arequipa. This city has lots of colonial era Spanish buildings. Most of these are being protected by UNESCO. It is a must to visit this city to know why it is the center of Spanish colonial architecture.

Nature lovers won’t be disappointed when they visit the Amazon River and the Amazon Jungle. The city of Iquitos is a good place to start your adventure in the Amazon. There are Reservations and National Parks here which preserve the flora and the fauna of the area.

For those food lovers out there you might be pleased to know that Peruvian cuisine is one of the best in South America. The flavor of the food is distinct and exquisite and influenced by various cultures. These cultures include the Incas, Spanish, Chinese, African, Italian and Japanese. The most basic of Peruvian food is maize, potatoes and spices. These ingredients are used in the different dishes that are distinct to this country.
