Budapest is best known for being the capital of Hungary. It is also the largest city in Hungary, and serves as the commercial, political, and cultural center for the entire country. The most interesting thing about Budapest is that it occupies both banks of the River Danube, and has unified Buda and Pest since the political problems were resolved around 135 years ago. Budapest is a wonderful city and an exciting place to visit. The native Hungarians are very proud of their city, and take much delight in showing the tourists the secrets of Budapest.

Neo-Gothic Parliament

This beautiful building houses amongst other things the Holy Crown of Hungary. If you find the idea of crown jewels and a monarchy fascinating, this crown will be something you do not want to miss. The crown itself is the only crown left in existence which has the “holy” before its name. It was made to honor Saint Stephen, who was a Hungarian hero from the distant past. The Neo-Gothic Parliament itself will be like nothing you have ever seen before. It offers fascinating insight into this curious little country, and the culture of its people.

Buda Castle

If your imagination begins to ignite when you see an ancient castle, this will be one of the beautiful specimens you will ever lay eyes on. Just looking at the Buda castle will take you back to the times of historic kings, queens, and knights. The castle is an educational site as well as a landmark. Take a tour through the extensive ballrooms and see some ancient art in its full regal glory. There are many museums nearby to offer tourists a tempting look at how and why the castle was originally constructed. Hungarian State Opera House

When you get tired of walking around the ancient architecture, you can enjoy an evening out at one of the most magnificent opera houses in the world today. Located centrally, this building offers some of the finest architecture you will see which was designed by a Hungarian architect. Inside you will witness some beautiful artwork and sculptures, before enjoying some wonderful music and acoustics. The Hungarian State Opera House has been named as one of the top five opera houses in the world today. At certain times during the year, there are ballets on offer, but be sure to book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Aside from all of the magnificent sites, Budapest offers some truly delicious cuisine. There are many world-class restaurants located in the center city, as well as some unique stores. There will be ample places to buy some unique and original gifts.
