Oman is lying in the southwest of Asia and its southeast bordering coast is the Arabian Peninsula. This desert kingdom has a jewel hidden in its south called Salalah. This focal point of history is surrounded by mountains and sand desert. Both served as a fortress and protector of this city over a thousand of years. The city also got a good harbor that draws to its shores leaders and merchants from every part of the world. With its beautiful landscape, Salahlah is considered a favorite place of tourist. One of the most notable things in Salahlah is its extra ordinary architecture. Today the area is considered a home of over hundred of thousands of people.
Also known as Frankincense land, Salalah is where you could get this hard to find perfume. Yearly this southern region gets almost 1,400 kilograms of frankincense that is transported from the Mediterranean. This has certainly made Salalah become popular. The ports of Khor Rori and Al-Balid are the ports that got the most number of Frankincense shipments. The Wadi Dawkah Frankincense Reserve is the biggest area for frankincense trees. It is considered as a heritage site.
Aside from Frankincense, Salahlah is also known for its number of tourist spots. There are beaches, parks, gardens and museums that you could visit.
The most popular place to see is the Nabi Ayoub’s Tomb or Job’s tomb. It is located in the Jable Ittin mountain range. It is where the remains of the famous prophet are found. The walls of the said place are filled with verses from the Quoran. There is a small mosque beside it where it is used for prayers.
Mughsail is a beautiful beach that outlines the coast of Salalah. This popular beach is surrounded by cliff and blowholes where the water can range up to few meters. The view along the coast is truly spectacular with different species of birds to match the scene.
There are lots of camels roaming around the streets of Salalah. Usually your visit will not be complete without a picture with these camels. June is the perfect month to see the camels because this is the time of the year when they start migrating and go to the lower land where it is much cooler.
Located at the coast are the ruins of Khor Rori that has a great view of the sea. Don’t miss this place as this is the most important pre Islamic settlement in the region of Dhofar. If you want to know more about the cultural side of Salalah, then visit its local museum. It displays Al Musnad writings, coins and manuscripts that date back to 11th century.
Aim Homran is a scenic spot if you want to get close with nature. It is an excellent place if you want to see eagles. The Ayn Razat is a place to go if you want to relax while bathing in the hot spring. Wadi Darbat is another natural park to see if you want a view of waterfalls, mountain, caves and wild life. You can definitely see the largest cave in the whole of Oman.
There also a number of gardens and park that you could visit making your experience a memorable one. Definitely this exotic land is certainly an unforgettable place to see.
