Places to Visit in Little Rock, Arkansas

Little Rock, Arkansas is an extremely exciting and populous city. Little Rock is the economic and state capital of Arkansas, and is located around the center of the state. Interestingly, the city got its name from the landmark, little rock, which was used by river-users when they transported goods to and from the city. The nice thing about Little Rock is that it is located right on the bank of the Arkansas River. When you visit, the river itself makes for a beautiful backdrop. The water supply from the city comes from Lake Maumelle, which is northwest of Little Rock, and not from the river itself. Though the city is populous, there are some nice open spaces, and plenty to see and do in the city center.

If you have been to Little Rock before, or are considering paying it a visit at some point in the near future, here are some not-to-be-missed sites for you to explore.

Arkansas Art Center

If you love arts, you are going to enjoy the time you spend at this beautifully designed center. The focus of the museum, should you choose to utilize it, is on educating the public to better appreciate and understand art. There are education classes on offer at the center, and research libraries available for interested parties. The actual exhibits of the museum are permanent, except in the rare event that a traveling exhibit is displayed. The exhibits themselves range from Rembrandt to Edgar Degas. There is much attention paid to drawings and watercolors, though there are some modern works available for your viewing pleasure. The Arkansas Art Center has a restaurant built-in, as well as a nice gift shop for your souvenirs. Of all the museums in Little Rock, this one is definitely worth a look.

Robinson Center

If you are thinking of a nice night out with the focus on relaxation, the Robinson Center will be the place you will want to visit. The Robinson contains a performance hall, a music hall, and plenty of meeting space. The really nice thing about the Robinson Center is that it is home to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, who receives great reviews from all who attend their concerts. If you are thinking that you would really prefer a play, there are musicals and Broadway plays available for the largest portion of the year. When you know when you are visiting, remember to book your tickets to avoid disappointment.

Arkansas Arboretum

If the weather is nice, and you fancy a little walk along the Maumelle River, the trails around the Arkansas Arboretum are going to excite you. The trees and flora on offer here correspond very nicely with the six different geographic regions that can be found in Arkansas. There are prairies, hills, and steep valleys which are probably remnants of the Mississippi alluvial plain from when the river flowed freely. This arboretum is definitely worth paying a visit one day when the weather is nice. You can take a picnic and explore freely, as you enjoy the peace and quiet of this picturesque area.
