Motown Historic Museum

In recent years, the old photographer’s studio which was later converted into the Motown Headquarters has been turned into a fantastic museum which recognizes the founders and the artists which made Motown. The label itself was constructed by Berry Gordy, and interestingly, it is his sister who owns the museum now. The museum is a definite must-see because of the original costumes, awards, records, and photographs that are housed there. The upstairs apartment where the founder used to reside has been restored to its 1960’s condition to allow visitors to experience a taste of the true “Hitsville.” The museum is open daily, and is both inexpensive and family-friendly.

Detroit Zoo

This spacious zoo is an excellent family-orientated place for a day out. The thing that sets this zoo aside from many others is that it is a non-profit organization which has taken in a lot of abused and unwanted circus animals and rehabilitated them. The focus of the zoo is education and preservation, and there are many examples of hundreds of different species housed there for the enjoyment of visitors. The zoo offers play-areas and dining facilities in addition to a few hundred picnic tables. It is well worth a visit to see some of the animal splendor alive on the planet today.

Detroit Institute of Arts

If the arts are your thing, you will not want to miss this massive and impressive collection when you visit Detroit. The institute incorporates over a hundred different galleries and the estimated worth of the collections is in excess of a billion dollars. If you get tired of walking around the exhibits, there is a film theater where you can sit quietly and be entertained. There are many types of collections here, such as Egyptian and Persian art, and the splendor of the building itself will startle and amaze you, as you peruse the paintings. The institute is open every day, and there is a nominal entry fee. It is a perfect day out for both singles and families, and there are on-site facilities available for dining.

Detroit has a moderate climate which is ideal for outdoor activities. There are parks, cycle rentals, and world-class restaurants somewhere in-between to allow you to enjoy your visit to its fullest extent.
