Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep
This prominent and famous Buddhist Temple which is located within the boundaries of the province is named for the mountain on which it sits. Due to numerous ancient legends, the temple itself is extremely sacred to the Thai people. It is an impressive structure on the horizon and definitely worth a visit if you are looking to get a taste of Thai culture. Foreign visitors flock to this temple in their droves because of its impressive and vastly different architecture. Chiang Mai National Museum
This small but interesting museum is well-located in the heart of Chiang Mai. If you are looking for some education, the amount of museums is pretty low, so be sure to take advantage of this one whilst you can. Many of the exhibits are dedicated to the history of Lanna, which was the prior kingdom before it was ravaged and renamed Chiang Mai. There are many legends associated with the area and some of them are documented in the museum. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the province, step inside and explore some history from a genuine Thai perspective.
Chiang Mai University
Though going back to school might not be your idea of fun, the first Northern University of Thailand is a joy to walk around. The students here are friendly and eager to learn about other countries and the professors are dedicated to providing them with a level of education which will make them world-beaters in the future. The gardens and architecture here are exquisite to look at, and again provide a fantastic opportunity for snapping off some holiday photographs.
Though the currency of Thailand is the baht, the dollar tends to work much better. Restaurant owners are more than eager to get their hands on some good foreign hard currency and you will be rewarded with some excellent and beautifully presented Thai cuisine. The food in Chiang Mai is wholesome and fine. There are many restaurants which are aimed at giving tourists a proper taste of the many flavors of Thailand.
