The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium

If you noticed the plural in the name of the museum, it wasn’t a mistake. There are four separate but connected museums for you to enjoy on your travels. The Belgians take their art very seriously, and you will view the Museum of Ancient Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Museum Constantin Meunier, and the Antoine Wierz Museum if you want to incorporate all four into your day. Most of the paintings housed at these museums are Flemish in origin and give an interesting insight into the Belgian culture. The people are friendly, the museum is educational and fun and an interesting day out will be had by all visitors.

The Atomium

If you are interested in a panoramic view of Brussels from some 100 meters off the ground, the Atomium is a place you will want to visit. This huge monument, which was constructed for the 1958 World’s Fair, resembles something of a Ferris wheel. There are nine steel spheres which are connected by a series of metal tubes. An elevator runs up the center so tourists can enjoy the full splendor of the experience without having to walk too far. The whole monument is made from steel, and is quite an impressive spectacle. The Atomium offers an excellent photograph opportunity, and a wonderful experience.

St. Michael and Gudula Cathedral

This spectacular-looking cathedral is a premium landmark in the Brussels region. It was originally built to house the relics of Saint Gudula in 1047, and is now used for significant weddings. If any European royalty are getting married when you visit, the chances are that it might be at this beautiful cathedral. The most notable thing about this ancient wonder is the 49 bell carillon which is located in the southern tower. Sometimes on weekends, there are live concerts in the area, which visitors are welcome to attend.

Aside from the history, Brussels offers fine-dining, some humongous shopping malls, and plenty of cheer. The Belgians are naturally friendly people who take great pride in showing tourists around their great city. Cyclists can be seen on every street in Belgium, as can pedestrians. There are a number of public transportation methods available which make life much easier if you dislike driving on the wrong side of the road.
