Getting Close with Nature at La Gran Sabana, Venezuela

Do you recall the controversial exchange of words between Spain’s King and the Venezuelan President during a Latin American Summit back in 2007? Well, that sure did turn the attention of the world to Venezuela, but it surely is not the reason why every nature-seeking adventurer would want to visit the country. Venezuela is in fact home to numbers of marvelous tourist destinations making it among the favorite destinations in Latin America.

sabanaThis Spanish speaking nation is covered with folds of natural and manmade attractions such as resorts and historical landmarks. One of Venezuela’s most interesting natural travel destinations is the Angel Falls located within the Canaima National Park; the park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 for its table-top mountains embraced by the La Gran Sabana area. Angel Falls holds the record as the highest waterfall that pours from a more than 3200 feet off the base.

The view of the site is as enchanting as its discovery. It is said that an American aviator in search of ore deposits was the first one to accidentally notice the existence of the natural wonder. But local Pemones Indians are said to have discovered the site and referred to it as Churún Merú prior to being exposed by the foreigners.

A tour to Angel Falls may require a little bit of adventure wrapped with fully throttled excitement. A trip to Caricas, the country’s capital, is needed as the entry point to Canaima where the journey to the waterfall begins. Today, the enchanting location of the waterfall is the most visited tourist destination in Venezuela. After witnessing the natural beauty and peacefulness of the place, some travelers would refer to it as the modern day Eden.

Throughout the journey, tourists will be introduced to the thick jungles surrounding the spot and get to witness different species that continue to survive in the jungles of Venezuela. This package is usually offered on visits done during the months of June to December.

An alternative trip to the Angel Falls would be an aerial view through rented charter planes and helicopters. Taking advantage of this form of package allow tourists to take a closer look of the site including the green surroundings. To give the fullest adventure to visitors, some tour operators incorporate legal base jumping guaranteed that permits will be granted

Majority of the views in the East area include flat-top Mountains locally known as Tepui. It is as beautiful and attractive as the Angel Falls with several natural wonders like the Mt. Roraima, where most hikers and rock climbers head to for a more challenging experience. The mountainous areas of La Gran Sabana border countries like Brazil and Guyana.
