In the area of North Carolina known as the Triad, Lakes are a central part of the vacationing community. Boating, fishing and water sports of all kinds can be found at lakes all across this area. The Triad is a hot spot of many boating events as well, and often are considered on any “Best of” lists that are compiled about US lakes. Here are the top five vacation lakes found in the Triad:
Baden Lake
Baden lake was one of several lakes that were created when a dam was built way back in the 1900s but it is a hotbed of summertime fun for the younger crowd. The lake is notorious for being extremely deep with certain areas exceeding 150 ft. The water is like bath water during the summer months, and skiers, bathers and water sports of all kinds can be found here. There are numerous campgrounds as well as hotels around the edges of this huge lake.
High Rock Lake
This lake runs the edges of Davidson county and is one of the more popular lakes to go fishing in the state. As a matter of fact, the fishing is known throughout the Country as it is a hot bed for finding hybrid bass. The fishing is what draws the majority, but plenty of people also swim and boat here as well. This lake is one of the largest in the state, second only to Lake Norman in size.
Belew’s Creek
When it comes to boating in North Carolina, Belew’s Creek is one of the communities that comes to mind. This wonderful little lake is among the better areas to go water skiing as the layout is open and the water is warm. There are a number of little islands on this lake that provide wild camping opportunities. Many people camp here because it allows them the feeling that they are on a deserted island. This lake is among the nicest in the world.
Pope Lake
Pope Lake is actually a reservoir but it is notable because of the incredible fishing it gives the Guilford County residents. This little lake allows for some serious anglers to catch fish that will fill up a dinner plate. Bass, crappie, and even the occasional catfish can be had here most times of the year. Fishing gets no better than on Pope Lake.
Kernersville Lake
Nestled in the little town of Kernersville, this little sixty acre gem is among the nicer places to go if you want to avoid the crowds of the larger lakes. Not only is the lake itself a huge draw, but the various things around the banks are great fun too. Pedal boats, fishing from both the bank and boat, and swimming are only three of the fun activities that can be had here. Best of all, the park is adjacent to the lake so you can picnic as well.
