Enjoying a Holiday in Argentina

Welcome to Argentina, the second largest country in South America and eight largest in the world. The country is famous for its political leaders, Juan and Eva Peron, two time World Cup champion, and the Buenos Aires just to name a few. It is the largest Spanish speaking country in the world whose neighbors include Chile to the west and south, Brazil and Uruguay on its northeastern border. Although it also claims almost a million square kilometers of Antarctica, this claim has been suspended by the Antarctic treaty.

The weather in Argentina would have to depend on your particular location and time of the year. The northern part of the country has hot and humid summers with dry winters. The central part has hot summers with the occasional thunderstorms and cool winters. The southern part of the country experiences warm summers with heavy snowfall in the winter.

The first step in planning a trip to Argentina is to visit the local Argentinean embassy. U.S. citizens just need a passport in entering the country, no need for a visa, if they intend to stay for up to 90 days. Make sure though that your passport isn’t damaged or expired since you will be sent back to the United States if it is.

The best entry point into Argentina is Buenos Aires, its capital city. This city is one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas and is a shopper’s paradise. There are few reminders in the city of its glorious past since everything here is modern. In this city you might want to visit the Catedral Metropolitana, a famous cathedral that contains the remains of Saint Martin. Teatro Colon, the worlds largest opera house, is a must see destination too which you won’t miss since it occupies an entire city block.

Argentine food is distinct from its South American neighbors. It is heavily influenced by European cuisines, particularly Italy. If you take a quick tour around the major cities you would find a lot of Italian restaurants and pizza places. One thing that Argentina is well known for though is its beef based meals.

When you explore the northeastern part of Argentina you would arrive at the regions of Chaco and Mesopotamia. The climate here is subtropical in nature making it an ideal place to hang out at the numerous beaches and islands. You will also find the famous Iguaza falls here which has been cited by UNESCO.

If you want to explore mountains then head out to the northwestern part of Argentina. It is in this area where you will find beautiful landscapes and mountain regions. Try taking the Train to the Clouds, one of the highest trains in the world, to get a view of the spectacular scenery.
You may also want to visit the Andean Patagonia. This region in Argentina is primarily a mountainous area with woods, glaciers and lakes. There are a couple of national parks here to visit which should provide you with breathtaking landscapes. There are lots of activities you could enjoy in these places like horseback riding, mountain biking, trekking and rafting.

Your tour around Argentina would definitely leave you with fond memories. When you arrive at your homes, you might even be starting to plan your next adventure into Argentina again.
