Panama City has always been a well known name when it comes to historical accounts. Arguably, the most famous of its structure is the Panama Canal which opened up trade routes between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Currently, Panama City is considered as a favorite retirement spot for old-timers from all over the world. This does not really come as a surprise since living conditions here are excellent with banking and commerce at its peak, and the atmosphere very conducive to relaxation.
Panama City, in a sense, has always bridged the gap between the old and the modern world. The rich historical sites complement the 5-star hotels that pepper the landscape; industrial factories using state of the art technology lie side by side with the pristine rain forests; modern sail boats and aquamarine transport roving the ageless waterways.

Accommodations here in the city are numerous, and certainly there are lodgings that can fit your or anyone else’s budget. If you want to spend more time in the city proper, we recommend you try the hotels; they are well worth the price tag, and you can comfortably arrange for transport to and from the hotel whenever you wish. You can also arrange to have the hotel concierge service to pick you up from the Tocumen International Airport when you arrive.
The hotels are also fabulous places to try the local cuisine, but there are a number of excellent restaurants to spend lunches and dinners in. We highly recommend the Olive Garden though, and the Hurricane Grill. Their fresh seafood dishes are to die for, and nothing can beat the friendly open atmosphere of both eating establishments. The price is not too bad either, and you can certainly walk away with a full stomach – and not an empty wallet. Try the coffee at Olive Garden as well.
If you are more into architectural and historical tours, we suggest you sign up for one the available city-wide tours in Panama City. These tours will not only afford you the best places to see on a limited time, but you will also be quite comfortable traveling from location to location. Plus, a guided tour is always best; the histories of some of these places are actually more interesting than the actual sites themselves. Some of the sites that we recommend are the historical: Casco Antiguo, San Felipe and Casco Viejo. These three places belong to what locals call the Old Quarter, or to be more precise, the Old Spanish Quarter.
Other noteworthy places to see include: Las Bovedas; The National Institute of Culture; Marine Exhibitions Center, Metropolitan Nature Park; Museo del Canal Interoceanico; Palacio de las Garzas; Plaza de la Catedral; Teatro Nacional; and the various tropical forests surrounding the Panama Canal.
However, if you came to Panama City to PARTY, we highly recommend you schedule your arrival during spring beak. Assuredly enough, you can party all you want and beer is a free flowing as the waters in the Pacific Ocean. Club LaVela is the most popular club during this time, however expensive the cover charge is at the door.
