Golden Retriever – Although this dog breed is typically big, golden retrievers are excellent family dogs and they are also known to be the staple dog breed among families. If you and your family enjoy the outdoors and crave an active lifestyle together, it will be great to consider getting a golden retriever. In the olden days, golden retrievers’ main function is to bring back birds hunted down by their owners but throughout time they have already been domesticated for family purposes. The hunting background of golden retrievers is the reason why it has a keen sense of observation with a loyal attribute.

West Highland Terrier – If you wanted a smaller dog who can keep up with your active lifestyle then this is the breed perfect for you. However, you should remember that the west highland terrier constantly seeks activities with you so that you can keep it happy and healthy. They also need the activities to exercise them constantly. Thus, westies easily become loyal friends and they are also noted for their great watchdog ability. But their extremely playful nature is only suitable for older kids because they are not too keen on being patient with mistreatments which they possibly experienced from kids below ten years of age.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi – The Corgi was originally bred to herd farm animals. As such, it has innate leadership ability and responsibility on its own. It can be said that a Corgi is a right mix of fun and responsibility and among the many dog breeds, they can be actually considered with kids as young as five. Corgis can easily recognize younger kids and they are known for their ability to become protective of them just as they would when herding a group of animals. They can boss kids around in such a way that they be reminded of their limits and Corgis will also reliably protect them from any possible danger.
