If you still don’t know how to make a home made Alfredo sauce from scratch then read on as I show you how easy it is to make Alfredo sauce.
Regular Alfredo Sauce
The first thing you have to do is to gather and prepare all the ingredients. To make Alfredo sauce you will need: 1 pint of heavy cream, eight ounce of shredded parmesan cheese, eight ounce of shredded Romano cheese, sixteen tablespoons of butter, six to eight cloves of crushed or finely chopped garlic, one-fourth sweet onion, chopped, salt and pepper to taste. Once you have gathered and prepared the ingredients, you are ready to cook.
Pre-heat the sauce pan, preferable a non-stick sauce pan. Place the butter into the sauce pan and wait until it melts. Don’t crank up the heat so much as you don’t want your butter to burn. Once the butter melts you can continue on and sauté the garlic and onion. Bring the heat to just above the medium low heat. Let the garlic and onion fry a little. When the garlic and onion is cooked, turn the heat back down to medium low heat. You can start adding the cream, the parmesan cheese and the Romano cheese, one ingredient at a time. Remember to continue stirring while you are adding the ingredients. It is of utmost importance that you do not leave your Alfredo sauce while you are cooking it as it easily burns. Continue stirring until the texture is even, with no visible solids left. You can add salt and pepper to taste. You can also add other kinds of cheese into your Alfredo sauce if you want. Putting in other herbs and spices to make the Alfredo sauce distinctly you is also allowed. All in all this Alfredo sauce makes eight to ten servings.
Low Fat Alfredo Sauce
If you are one of those people that really like creamy sauces but are afraid of gaining weight, you can try doing a low fat, low calorie Alfredo sauce. It has the same creamy taste but not all of the fat. To start off you will need to prepare three tablespoons of margarine, one fourth cup of all-purpose flour, two and one half cups of skim milk, one fourth cup of parmesan cheese, and one eight teaspoon ground nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste.
Like our regular Alfredo sauce, you would need to prepare a sauce pan and melt the margarine. Stir in the all-purpose flour. After the flour, continue stirring in the skim milk. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring continuously. Stir until the sauce has thickened, which would be around two to three minutes. Reduce the heat to low heat and stir in the parmesan cheese, nutmeg and the salt and pepper. Continue cooking for another one to two minutes. This low fat Alfredo sauce makes about four servings.
