Summer recreation can be one of the best ways to bond with your family if you take the time together to enjoy it. There are literally hundreds of summer yard games that any family can play. Of those, some are more exciting and fun than others. It really depends on the family which games are the best, but here are five summer yard games that will be a hit with any family this summer:
Badminton - This is one game that has been a staple for generations and with good reason. It is a team game where you take tennis like rackets and hit a shuttle cock back and forth over a net. This game tests your teamwork, timing, skill, and even your stamina. The game is perfect for a four person family because it is often played two on two. This summer yard game is one that is great outdoor fun for the entire family.
Tether Ball - Tether ball is a game that involves a rubber ball about the size of a volleyball on the end of a rope. The rope is attached to the top of a tall pole and the ball swings around the pole. The object is to get on different sides of the pole and to try to wrap the ball around the pole in the direction of your opponent before they do the same to you. While this is the advertised game for tether ball, my family of men would instead play kill ball. This would involve all the men trying to hit the ball into the other person kind of like dodge ball. It was kind of primitive, but it made for a ton of laughs.
Horseshoes - Not many summer yard games have been around as long as horseshoes. This is a game where oversized horseshoes are tossed into pits in an attempt to wrap the shoe around a single pole. You get points based on how close you come to the pole. If you wrap the shoe around the pole and it stays, then you get what is called a ringer. This game is great fun with parental supervision of course.
Tag - While tag is not the most advanced summer yard game around, it is one of the most exciting. It is great fun for all ages, and nobody gets left out in the family. The game is simple in that all the players are chased by one player that is “It” and they are eliminated as they are tagged. It is simple fun for a great summer day with the family.
Hide And Go Seek -Like Tag, Hide and go Seek allows for the whole family to join in. It involves having one person hide their eyes while the others go and hide throughout the yard while they count to twenty five. Once they do, then the seeker will go and try to find all of the people that are hidden. Once they do find someone, then they trade places and allow the other to hide in their stead. This summer yard game classic is a classic for a reason. It is incredible fun!
