Five Reasons To Pick Cats Over Dogs

To pick a cat or a dog can be a very tough decision. Usually, when a man and woman get married, this is one of the first things that they might fight about. If one grew up with cats, and the other grew up with dogs, then there is a good chance that they will not agree with one another. This was the situation that I ran into with my wife. I had to come up with some quick and logical reasons to pick a cat over a dog, and these are the five I came up with:

1. A Cat Is Low Maintenance - Yes, you have to clean out the litter box. Outside of that, cats are pretty much an autopilot pet choice. They groom themselves, entertain themselves, and only want to be loved on once in a blue moon. What more could you want from a pet?

2. You do not have to walk a cat - Walking a dog can be fun of course, but every dog owner has had that day when they simply do not want to do it. Most often, walking the dog is a pain in the tail. With a cat, you do not have to do any such thing. They sleep over half the day anyways, and the other half is spent exploring your home.

3. A cat keeps mice out of the house - This was one argument that my wife conceded was quite attractive. She loves her dogs, but she even admitted that a dog is likely to make friends with any other animal in the house. The only down side to this situation is the cat’s habit of placing the mouse at your doorstep when they are done.

4. Cats are cheaper to feed - All pet food is expensive, but this is a volume thing. Cats simply do not eat nearly as much as dogs, and thus you do not have to feed them as much. Cat food is, to be fair, quite expensive though.

5. Cats do not bark - A barking dog is only good when someone is breaking into your house. The odds of that happening are pretty slim in most people’s lives, so I will take my cat that only meows occasionally. The one exception to this is the time my cat went in heat and spotted a hot little number outside the window. That was not the best sound I have ever heard at all.

While cats are certainly far from the perfect pet, I have found them to be about as close as you can get. I love dogs as well, but the cat is the ultimate pet. They are so easy to get along with, and they are so low maintenance. I like the attitude of the cat, and they seem to like me as well. The best pet is always the one that loves you most. For me, that is my cat.
