Here’s a bread baking guide that will help you with your baking questions.

Before baking bread, find as much information about baking breads as you can.
Begin by browsing online. Try to search for how to bake bread books. If you have extra budget, try to look for another book that can give you information about different types of breads too. However, if you can find a single book that has both how to bake features and different bread styles information purchase it at once. It will be a valuable tool to have around you. If you can’t find a decent book on the web, try visiting your local bookstore like Barnes & Nobles. I’m sure they have a lot of selection they can offer you. After purchasing the book, do some reading. Decide which type of bread you want to bake first. Read and follow the instructions carefully. Try to imagine how you’ll be baking this bread. Start with something simple and easy. Remember you are not an expert at it yet.

Gather your ingredients.

Create a checklist of ingredients. Open your book to the ingredient section of your chosen bread project. Write them down. You are doing this so as you don’t waste time wandering around the grocery store hunting for ingredients from memory. Your checklist will be your compass. It will allow you to save time and avoid impulsive buying and purchasing of unnecessary staff that is not needed for your bread baking project.

Begin by preheating the oven.

Baking bread using the oven is still the most common practice in cooking bread. Begin by preparing the oven. Set the right level of temperature based from your book instruction guide. Bread comprised of water, yeast and flour usually need a higher temperature level usually 400F or higher. On the other hand, enriched breads like breads with eggs, milk or butter require a lower level of temperature.

Understand the baking magic.

Most breads require a specific level of temperature in order to achieve the desired result. Thru baking knowledge, you can estimate how high you should set the temperature and how long you should bake. Basic breads usually take 45-60 minutes to cook. Baking time for thin flat breads on the other hand is within 5-15 minutes while 15-25 minutes for thick flat breads. Rolls and buns take 15-20 minutes to be ready.

Baking bread management.

Use a water spray bottle and apply a mist of water directly to the oven as you are cooking your dough. Within 10 minutes of baking, the temperature of the dough has increase to a level high enough that it kills the active yeast, ending the rising action. Now moisture from the mist allows the bread to form a thin, golden crust while allowing the inside of the bread to remain soft. Now a good way to check the doneness of your bread is to tap the underside of the bread and listen to the sound. A hallow sound indicates a done bread however a dull sound means an undercooked bread. The bread should also feel firm but not hard.

Slicing and serving freshly baked bread.

Use a wooden bread board for slicing your bread. Then grab a large, sharp serrated knife and slice the bread in a sawing like manner. Then serve hot.
