Yesterday, I discussed how Duane Chapman, aka. Dog the Bounty Hunter was caught on tape saying the “n” word in reference to his son’s dating an African American woman. At first, I mistakenly assumed that it was his son Leland, but today the media has released that the identity of Dog’s son in question is, Tucker Chapman.
Tucker Chapman is in a relationship with Monique Shinnery and Dog was concerned that if someone overhead him saying the “n” word, it would ruin his career. Well, he was right. However, what is coming as a total shock in this fiasco is the fact that it was Tucker Chapman (according to Dog’s lawyer) who recorded the tape and sold it to the National Enquirer. Now, the main issue that people want to know is whether or not Tucker Chapman violated state laws by recording the private conversation in the first place.
What is interesting to realize is the fact that many people in the country agree that they have all said something in private at one time or another, that would make them look bad if it was displayed publicly. This does not justify Dog’s use of the word but it still seems pretty apparent that Dog has plenty of support from his fans, and it doesn’t seem that they are all wearing sheets over their heads and spouting white supremacy.
Today, Tim Storey, Dog’s pastor made the statement that Dog began using the “n” word when he was in prison and that it became a habit. He also said that Dog uses the word frequently on the streets and that it is a common word spoken in many circles.
Personally, I think that Dog is going to survive this one. I think his show will be reinstated as well. Simply put, Dog never called Monique the “n” word. In fact, he said the very opposite that it wasn’t because she was African American, but because he used the word and didn’t want it twisted. It seems that Tucker is a bit money hungry, since he became outraged over the idea that he wouldn’t be on the show. I don’t know, I’ve watched Dog the Bounty Hunter and I’ve never seen Tucker. I’ve seen Leland, but I didn’t even realize that Dog had a son named Tucker until yesterday. But I guess Tucker was pretty ripped about not being on the show.
Like I said before, I think that Dog’s problem isn’t racism but the social conditioning that he’s become accustomed to. I hope that they will all make up and become a united front, but I wonder if that’s likely. This was a pretty big blow and to think that Dog’s only son betrayed him like that and jeopardized his entire career. That’s not cool. Maybe Tucker is covering for Monique, who knows. One thing that I would like to know, is how much did Tucker get for the audiotape. Whatever the price, I wonder if Tucker thinks it was worth it.
