From the weird news files, a recent study has shown that tonsil cancer could possibly be caused by oral sex. Stockholm, a city that has been studied extensively by the Karolindka Institute, has found a direct link between HPV (human papillomavirus) and tonsil cancer. HPV has always been linked with cervical cancer, but there are over 100 variations of the cancer causing HPV.

HPV takes a long time to develop into cancer, in some cases up to 30 years. That said, the cancer is only now showing up in the health of patients that contracted HPV back in the 70’s. This is possibly attributed to the changing sexual habits of patients in the era of the 70’s. HPV positive rates have been increasing dramatically in recent years and many think that is due to this reason.
Tonsil cancer is one of the most dangerous types because patients often have no clue they have it until it has spread. There are no common symptoms of a patient with tonsil cancer. The lymph nodes are normally affected before the patient ever is diagnosed, and by then it is difficult to treat the cancer. Adding this to the list of sexual health problems is quite amazing to say the least.
Smoking was the primary culprit in tonsil cancer before this study, and some feel that this may actually overcome smoking as the most common cause. That is certainly big news in the world of medicine, cancer, and it’s causes. It also underlines the need for the HPV vaccine in girls to prevent cervical cancer, also caused by HPV. The vaccine is one of the most valuable preventative measures out there, and should be considered by every parent of young women.
People who are HPV positive in their mouths are the problem where oral sex is concerned. It is a problem that can spread via this sexual act, as well as potentially even french kissing. It is not known for certain that this is the case, but all signs are pointing to this being the case. The numbers in the study certainly bear this out.
Does this mean that the acts of oral sex and french kissing is the next thing to be off limits for our society and their safety? Only time and more study can say for sure, but it seems as though everything is providing a potential link to cancer these days. The deadly disease is certainly the boon of our lifetime, and only with a cure can we eradicate the spread of cancer for good.
