The murder of Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair may not be the slam dunk that everyone thought it was. McNair was found slumped in the couch of an apartment he had leased with a friend, shot to death. His girlfriend, Saleh Kazemi, was found on the floor with a single gunshot wound to the head. A pistol was found under her body. Though the evidence points to a murder/suicide, the police are not ruling out other possibilities just yet.
Steve McNair is married to Mechelle McNair, and Mechelle apparently was not aware of the affair. Steve had been seeing Kazemi for months, and had met her at a restaurant where Kazemi had been employed as a waitress. Steve McNair also has four sons.
The life McNair was living was in dark contrast to the life that he lived publicly. He was a superstar NFL quarterback, and very well respected member of the community in both Tennessee and also in Baltimore where he played with the Ravens. He was known for extensive charity work, and having a kind heart. Though Kazemi had stated to friends that McNair was leaving his wife, this is still unclear in the investigation. No court papers exist between Mechelle and Steve, though they did have a home on the market for sale.
The police have ruled McNair’s death a homicide, and are waiting on test results before ruling on Kazemis. The likely tests include drug testing, and whether or not Kazemi had gunshot residue on her hands. This would likely point to the murder/suicide theory, but is certainly not a guarantee. In today’s world, strange things can happen with murder investigations. One thing is certain. Steve McNair did not kill himself. He had four gunshot wounds including two to the head. That points to murder as the only option.
Prayers and thoughts go out to the families in this horrible time of tragedy.
