In an upcoming interview on ABC News “Nightline”, American Idol judge Paula Abdul finally answers some tough questions about her supposed alcohol and prescription drug abuse that has widely been rumored. It appears that Abdul finally tired of the rumors and decided to address the rumors herself, though one can wonder about her responses.

Abdul also addresses the current situation with American Idol including her future with the top rated reality entertainment show, and the rumors of problems between herself and new judge Kara DioGuardi. Though on camera they appear to be best of friends, rumors have swirled that they are not getting along behind the scenes.
The interview is conducted by Cynthia McFadden and is set to air on Thursday night.
Abdul flatly denies in the interview that she ever has been addicted to prescription drugs, and that she has never even been drunk. She is challenged to a point by McFadden on some of these answers, and Paula holds firm on her responses.
On the supposed feud with DioGuardi, Abdul says that they are the best of friends and that there is no rift between them.
“Well, I started her success. And I’m proud of it. Happy of it. I moved a stranger from New York, told her to give 2 weeks notice to Billboard magazine, and moved a stranger into my home in LA,” Abdul said of DioGuardi. “I actually think that Simon got mad that we are friends and that I actually knew her and that her humble beginning began sleeping in my guest bedroom and I just believed in her.”
Speculation has also swirled that DioGuardi is on the show as a fourth judge because Abdul is moving on due to her health. That rumor is not supported by Idol brass, though they would not admit it if it were true. It does seem strange that they would bring in a new judge out of the blue in this way, and one wonders if maybe something is going on behind Abdul’s back. If Abdul goes, it would hurt Idol in many television viewers eyes, but not destroy it. Losing Simon Cowell would certainly damage Idol much worse. He is the face of American Idol to many, and his dry wit and insults are a staple every Tuesday night.
Though these answers that Abdul has given say one thing, her actions and behavior on several Idol episodes forces one to wonder if she is being forthright. Abdul is beloved to many people, and certainly should be given the benefit of the doubt, but some of the situations are very hard to believe. The details of the interview may cast some light on what was actually going on. It should be a very interesting interview come Thursday night.
