Jon and Kate Plus 8 Stars Shun Spotlight

Jon and Kate Plus 8 is one of the most entertaining reality shows on television, and the fact that the entertainers have become stars is not sitting well with the family. Oddly, they feel as though they should not be under close scrutiny in spite of the fact that they are in a television show about their day to day life. On the latest Jon and Kate Plus Eight episode, Jon talks about the incredible scrutiny that the family is under constantly.

He says that “this is not what I signed up for” and other statements of frustration when speaking about the magnifying glass that his family is under.

That statement is rather odd really. Jon signed up for exactly that unless he was hoping for a show that was a dud. If the show was a success, then his family and all they do would become public knowledge on the show itself, much less any other time. Along with the benefits of having a hit television reality show, Jon and Kate have some things that are not so good as well. It is the trade off that you make when you do a show about your daily life.

If Jon and Kate Plus Eight are really that desperate for privacy and being left alone, then they should cancel their top rated show and drift away from the limelight. To sit and make such statements while speaking from the podium of a top rated show seems rather silly.

While I can understand anyone’s need for privacy, these guys gave up their privacy when they accepted the show and it’s premise. To see their lives on display every night, it is quite normal when people want to know more and more. Every Hollywood movie superstar goes through these problems, and most of them are not even doing a show about their personal lives. They are acting in roles and movies.

Jon and Kate Plus Eight can eliminate all the paparazzi and attention very easily. Simply cancel their show and go back to being a normal family. Forget the money, and the other perks of having the show, and simply walk away. The spotlight will dim very quickly if they do, and then they can go back to working on their relationship in private.

The way I see it, the only people with a right to complain here are the kids. They did not ask for all the attention and the spotlights to be pushed in their faces. They certainly should not be having to deal with that sort of thing. Jon and Kate chose their situation. The kids did not.

While the show is certainly a favorite of mine, the interview they did simply rubbed me the wrong way. It is almost as though they are blaming their relationship problems on their fans. Hopefully, they can right the ship in some way and get things worked out again. Maybe they are simply not strong enough to weather the storm of a hit television show. If not, then by all means walk away and save the family. That is what really matters in the long run anyway.
