God Hates Fags

Well, according to the members of the Westboro Baptist Church He does. Amazingly, the citizens didn’t seem to agree. In fact, 10.9 million dollars tells a different story. When Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder died, members of the church protested at his funeral. They were adorned with false humility and signs that read “You’re Going to Hell,” “Not Blessed Just Cursed” “God is Your Enemy” and “God Hates You.” I don’t know what type of Christianity their serving over in Baltimore, but it certainly doesn’t add up with anything I’ve learned over the years.

In turn, Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder’s father, Albert Snyder sued for emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and punitive damages. He was awarded a mere $2.9 million for the stress and $8 million for invasion of privacy.

If picketing funerals with signs that read “God Hates Fags” isn’t enough to get you stirred up, you may be surprised to learn that the church has bought the Internet URL, www.godhatesfags.com to promote more of their hate.

This is nothing short of terror and it is a good thing that this judgment has been handed. Personally, I am a Christian. But this in no way, shape, or form even mirrors the reflection of Jesus Christ that I am committed to reveal in my life. In fact, I think it’s a shame that those in this “ministry” weren’t arrested and hauled off to jail.

I can only imagine the pain, humiliation, and anger that Albert Snyder and Matthew’s friends and family members experienced during that funeral. It is unbelievable that anyone, no matter what his or her religious preferences may be, would do something so despicably cruel. I am appalled at their behavior and the guise that these wackos are trying to use the Christian shield to hide behind, but I am not surprised.

It seems these days that Christians have gone just plain mad. From televangelists who wear a mask of compassion while hiding hearts of abuse to pastors, priests, and other leaders who use their power and authority to abuse the youngest and most helpless members of society, children.

So, should I really be shocked that this church would protest this funeral? I guess not. I guess I should be hardened of heart, toughened up, and ready to expect the worst in people. I guess I should accept the fact that someone ordained this guy as he passes himself off as a pastor while spewing garbage and destroying lives. I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am. And more than that, I am outraged.

Anyway, I think that they may get the picture now. Obviously, if they thought that God was on their side, $10.9 million dollars should be enough to let them know that He certainly wasn’t in the courtroom pulling any strings on their behalf.

I guess He isn’t too pleased with their website either, since it seems to be down. I have a feeling that the members of Westboro Baptist Church forgot the “golden rule.” Treat others the way you would like to be treated. You see, some may call it Karma, in my Christian walk; it’s called sowing and reaping. Basically, the thought is the same. You are going to be treated the way you treat others. Something tells me that the Westboro Baptist Church is about to get a taste of their own medicine.
