Texas Christian University Backs Out On Plans For Gay Dorms

Texas Christian University, who was considering creating seperate housing for gay and lesbian students are now backing down. The housing was set to open in the fall for students who were homosexual or lesbian, but after heated debate over the issue, TCU is now putting the plans on hold news sources are saying.

Christian License Plates Spark Controversy in South Carolina

The South Carolina State Legislature has unanimously approved a bill to create a so-called Christian license plate. The plate will feature a gold Christian cross over a stained-glass window, with the words “I Believe” underneath. A similar bill was considered by Florida’s legislature last year, but was eventually rejected as violating separation of church and state.

Survey Shows Majority of Americans are Religiously Tolerant

For better or worse, religious beliefs and politics tend to go hand in hand in the US. And because 2008 is a presidential election year, religion has been the subject of much debate surrounding the candidates, and the viewpoints of individual Americans. But in spite of attempts by pundits and politicos to use religion to divide the nation, a recent survey shows that American citizens are, in general, quite tolerant of other religions and viewpoints — including atheism.
