Drug Uses
Wellbutrin is an antidepressant which directly affects the brain and surrounding nerve cells. It is normally administered as a treatment for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), nicotine and cocaine addiction, bipolar disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, and even lower back pain. It also helps patients in their effort to quit smoking, but has no chemical relation to tricyclic or tetracyclic SSRIs, as well as other antidepressant catalysts.
How to Take Wellbutrin
Take Wellbutrin exactly as instructed. Avoid taking it in greater doses, or for periods longer than advised by a health practitioner. The drug may be taken with food, or on an empty stomach. The tablet should be taken by swallowing it whole; avoid crushing, breaking, or biting the pill before ingesting it. It is designed to gradually release the substance into your body, and tampering with it can cause too much of the medication to disperse at the same time.
Drug Precautions
Prior to taking Wellbutrin, inform your physician if you have a background of seizure, or if have incurred a head injury, heart disorder, diabetes, brain tumor, liver or kidney disorder, alcohol dependence, or eating abnormalities. The potency of the drug may cause you to feel dizzy and inhibit your body’s normal coordination, so avoid hazardous activities which require your full attention. Alcohol and tranquilizers can also increase your risk of incurring seizures if you suddenly stop their intake while under treatment with Wellbutrin.
Drug Interactions
Wellbutrin may interact differently with various other medications. Tell your doctor about all kinds of medication which you are currently taking before you consider using Wellbutrin. This includes all forms of prescription and non-prescription medicines, as well as herbal supplements and medication, vitamin and mineral supplementation, and other health products.
Side Effects
At the first sign of an allergic reaction, seek for medical aid immediately. Symptoms of an allergy may include hives, swollen areas in the face and the throat, and laborious breathing. Call a physician at once if you incur convulsions, or a rapid and irregular heartbeat as a result of intake. Do the same if you notice any recent or developing symptoms of behavioral changes, insomnia, impulsiveness, irritability, restlessness, hyperactivity, severe depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or panic attacks. Non-serious adverse effects may include migraines; appetite and weight changes; slight itching, rash, and profuse sweating; queasiness, vomiting, and a parched mouth; and a decreased sexual drive.
Missed Dose
Make up for a missed intake as long as it is not within four hours of the next dose. Otherwise, it is strongly advised that you skip the dose and wait for the next scheduled intake. Avoid taking double doses to make up for a skipped dose.
Overdose
Seek for medical aid at once if you suspect that you have incurred an overdose of Wellbutrin. Indications of an excessive intake may involve seizures, a rapid heart rate, hallucinations, unconsciousness, feebleness, and cardiac arrest.
Storage
Keep Wellbutrin within controlled room temperatures of 20 to 25C. Store it in a tightly-capped, light-resistant container.
