What is Lamisil Oral?

Drug Uses

Lamisil Oral is an antibiotic with antifungal properties. It is administered for treating fungal infections which affect the finger and toe nails. In granular form, it is also used for the treatment of infections on the scalp’s hair follicles, in children with ages of at least four years old. Lamisil Oral may also be used for other conditions and purposes.

How to Take Lamisil Oral

Lamisil Oral comes in tablet or granular form for oral administration. For the treatment of fingernail fungal infections, it is taken in single daily doses for a period of six weeks; for toenail fungus, the same dosage applies for a period of twelve weeks. Take the tablet with water. The granules may be sprinkled in any kind of food, except those with acidic properties (such as juices); pudding or cereal would be fine. Lamisil Oral granules should be taken with any meal.

Drug Precautions

If you bear a current condition of renal or liver problems, or autoimmune disorders like lupus or psoriasis, you may take the medication in an adjusted dose, or you may require special monitoring while using Lamisil Oral. Take the medication for the entire treatment duration prescribed for you; the indications of infection may dissipate before your condition fully heals. Take note that Lamisil Oral cannot treat viral infections like influenza and the common cold. Some people with preexistent health conditions have acquired severe liver damage as a result of taking the medication; make sure that your doctor fully knows your current state of health in order to avoid any complications.

Drug Interactions

The following medications can have an effect on the effectiveness of Lamisil Oral: rifampin or cimetidine; other antifungal antibiotics like fluconazole; anticoagulants (blood thinners) like warfarin; SSRI antidepressants, including fluvoxamine, paroxetine, and fluoxetine; medications for heart rhythm conditions like propafenone and flecainide; beta-blockers, including atenolol, metoprolol, timolol, bisoprolol, and nadolol; MAO inhibitors like phenelzine and tranylcypromine; and tricyclic antidepressants, including tranylcypromine and desipramine.

Side Effects

Get immediate medical attention if you begin to show symptoms of liver failure, such as queasiness, stomachache, a reduced desire to eat, jaundice, an itching sensation, and urine or stool with a darkened color. These symptoms can happen even if you do not have a history of liver disorders. Take the same advice if you also experience these conditions: a decrease in weight because of a change in taste; symptoms of an influenza outbreak like an aching body, and fever with chills; pain or inflammation on the joints; and butterfly-shaped rashes on the cheeks and nose.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose if you remember it within the hour of the scheduled intake. Skip over the dose otherwise and wait for the next one to come along.

Overdose

Overdose indications may involve dizziness, stomachache, rash, or frequent urination; seek medical attention if you believe that you have taken Lamisil Oral in excessive doses.

Storage

Store the tablets and granules in light-resistant containers, and within room temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius.
