What is Flonase?

Drug Uses
Flonase is administered to provide relief from nasal discomfort, such as sneezing, a congested nasal cavity, or runny nose – symptoms of seasonal or year-long allergies. Its main purpose is to inhibit the release of chemicals which cause inflammation in the body. It is also available as a nasal spray (for topical use in the nasal mucosa), and employs a metering, atomized spray pump.
How to Take Flonase
Since Flonase aids in preventing inflammation, it is normally used once a day as soon as treatment begins. Its potency is dependent on its regular use. The advisable initial dosage for adults is two sprays in both nostrils, once a day (50 mcg per spray, 200 mcg for the day’s dose). This same prescription, administered into two separate dosages of 100 mcg for an entire day (in the morning and in the evening) is also recommended. After several days of use, the dosage may be reduced 100 mcg (a 50 mcg spray for each nostril) once a day. Some cases may require a normal 200 mcg daily dose for controlling the symptoms, and further relief is obtained with regular use.
Drug Precautions
Inform your doctor of any viral, fungal, or bacterial infections which you may bear, or if you have the following conditions: a prolonged or maintained nose bleed; sores within the nose which doesn’t heal; problems with vision; and symptoms of influenza, like fever, an aching body, and chills. Taking Flonase in such conditions can hinder your body’s capability to ward off infections. If you are currently using the drug, stay away from sick people, or those who bear an infection; contracting an infection while you are under medication with Flonase may have health-threatening consequences.
Drug Interactions
Flonase can interact with the potency of several medications, including antibiotics like ketoconazole, and HIV drugs like ritonavir. Inform your doctor if you are using such medicines, as well as other over-the-counter or prescription drugs which you may be currently taking.
Side Effects
Seek immediate medical aid if you bear an allergic reaction as a result of using Flonase. Continue treatment otherwise, but inform your doctor of any minor side effects which you may experience, including: headaches and back pain; menstrual problems or a decreased sex drive; a slight nose bleed; sores around and within your nasal area; and sinus pain, coughing fits, or sore throat.
Missed Dose
Administer the missed dose as soon as you are reminded of it, with the condition that your next scheduled dose is not nearly due. If it is too late to make up for the missed dose, skip it, and wait for the next one.
Overdose
Excessive use of Flonase is not expected to cause life-threatening symptoms, but prolonged use may result in thinning skin, aberrations in the shape or positioning of body fat, menstrual problems, easy bruising, impotence, or reduced desire for sex.
Storage
Store Flonase within temperatures of 4-30C. Keep it in an upright position, away from sources of extreme temperature and moisture.
