What is Flexeril?

Drug Uses

Flexeril can efficiently block the sensations of pain which is sent to the brain through nerve impulses, thereby providing the benefit of relaxed muscles. If it is used in complement to bed rest and sustained physical therapy, it can afford relief from pain and injury, symptoms associated with problematic conditions of the skeletal muscles.

How to Take Flexeril

Flexeril capsules usually come in ten milligram dosages, with the usual adult dose being three such capsules taken in a day (in evenly-spaced intervals). If you are taking Flexeril, avoid taking it in daily doses which amount to more than sixty milligrams (total). You should ingest the capsule whole if it is in extended-release form (down it with water if this proves to be difficult for you). Do not tamper with the capsule before you ingest it; doing so can force your body to absorb too much of the medication too soon. Take note that the medication should be administered only as part of an extensive treatment regimen which may also involve physical therapy and other pain management methods.

Drug Precautions

Taking Flexeril can lead to adverse effects which can interfere with your normal thinking or reflexes. Take caution when you involve yourself in activities which require your full attention, such as driving and the operation of heavy equipment. Alcohol can also enhance certain side effects caused by the medication, as well as those for cold or allergies, pain management, seizures, sleep disorders, and severe depression and agitation. Other muscle relaxants can also contribute to the drowsing effects of Flexeril.

Drug Interactions

Various medications can either hamper or contribute (in a negative way) to the efficiency of Flexeril, including: a bronchodilator like tiotropium; guanethidine, mepenzolate, or tramadol; benztropine, atropine, or methscopolamine; glycopyrrolate; MAO inhibitors, including phenelzine and selegiline; treatment medication for the bladder or the urinary tract, such as flavoxate, tolterodine, and solifenacin; and irritable bowel medicines such as hyoscyamine and dicyclomine.

Side Effects

You may experience these non-serious adverse symptoms, as caused by an intake of Flexeril: muscle feebleness; a parched mouth or throat; a sudden decrease in appetite, accompanied by stomach pains and queasiness; blurry vision; fatigue or dizziness; and bowel problems such as constipation, diarrhea, and gas. If you suffer an allergic reaction after taking Flexeril, contact for medical attention at once. The allergy may be indicated by swollenness on specific parts of your face, hives, or a difficulty in maintaining normal breath.

Missed Dose

Make up for a missed intake at once if you are reminded of it. But if the next dose on your schedule is already due, leave out the missed dose and take the succeeding one according to prescription.

Overdose

Taking Flexeril in excess can be fatal. If you incur symptoms of excessive use, such as a quick heartbeat, tremors, hallucinatory visions, chest pains, or seizure (convulsion), get medical attention as soon as possible.

Storage

Keep Flexeril away out of children’s reach. Store it at 25C, or within controlled temperatures of 15-30C.
